About 3M Combat Arms Earplugs Claims
Between 2003 and 2015, 3M Company supplied the U.S. military with Combat Arms Earplugs Version 2 (CAEv2), which were standard issue for military personnel serving in combat zones like Iraq and Afghanistan. These dual-ended earplugs were designed to provide two levels of hearing protection: one end for blocking all sound, and the other for blocking loud impulse sounds while allowing soldiers to hear commands and approaching enemies. However, the earplugs had a design defect that prevented them from forming a proper seal in the ear canal, leaving users vulnerable to hearing damage from loud combat and training noises. As a result, many service members developed hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and other auditory issues.
